GCYMBA is committed to providing student-athletes with a positive, inclusive team environment in which each member will strive to achieve both competitive and non-competitive goals. It is our belief that through teamwork, determination, and dedication, our team members will develop strong minds, strong bodies, and strong character… one pedal stroke at a time.
The Gulf Coast Youth Mountain Bike Association is a co-ed racing team (Gulf Coast Composite “Dirt Sharks”) composed of athletes from Northwest Florida and Coastal Alabama. Three schools in Coastal Alabama specifically foster student involvement with GCYMBA (Spanish Fort Toros, Daphne Trojans, and Fairhope Pirates). The Dirt Sharks participate in the Alabama Cycling Association League (ACA). The Alabama Cycling Association officially launched in 2023 as Alabama’s only interscholastic mountain bike league wholly operated from Alabama. The ACA has a mission to improve the lives of Alabama’s youth through the sport of mountain biking. GCYMBA was previously affiliated with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). The Aggies Mountain Bike Team (formerly associated with GCYMBA and Tate High School) was awarded the title of Alabama Cycling State Champions in 2024 & 2025!
The 2026 season includes six events from late February to early May. Student-athletes compete for individual and team awards in categories equivalent to other interscholastic sports (middle school, freshman, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity).
